The Lord’s Prayer Redux

Matthew 6:9-13

Oh, my sweet, heavenly Father,

I gaze upon and am marveled by

Your creation and glory this morning.

The symmetry and patterns of a single leaf

are revealed in the rising of Your sun.

Please let Your kingdom come upon

this tired, fearful, broken, violent earth

just as Your supreme, compassionate,

restorative will reigns in heaven.

Father, please help save us from ourselves.

Please let those who have resources provide

food and clothes to those who do not,

for they were given those resources

by You for this very purpose.

Please keep me away from sin and temptation

that arises from my own choices;

help me to make the right choices when I am

confronted by temptation not of my own making.

Please keep the enemy and his demons far away from me;

You know I have enough of my own to content with.

And Father, please open my heart to forgive immediately,

to offer grace and mercy,

just as you forgive me when I offend,

and so long ago offered me

unconditional love, grace and mercy

when I lived for sin.

Though even now, as I live for You

I know I hurt You.

I am an imperfect daughter.

Yet I know You love me.

I know I am safe in Your embrace.

I know You will never abandon me.

Please, Father, help us all

retreat from anger, fear and hate.

Please work in us –

in all your children –

to be good soil.

Please grow in us a holy hunger

to embody and produce

the fruit of your Spirit

in our thoughts,

in our words

and our actions

starting now.

Beautiful, Susan. Yes, we have always needed Him to “save us from ourselves…” Fortunately He loved us and gave His Son for our sins as planned long before it happened! God and His creation is full of love, beauty, and grace…

    1. Glad you liked it, Paul. Hey – you doing okay?

      1. I’m not doing too bad Susan. With my health it is up and down. Last week was bad because I had an intestinal blockage. I managed to deal with it without going to the hospital but it is hard. I need an operation for an aneurysm in my arm from the dialysis fistula. That will be within the next few weeks – I hope – as it grows daily. It goes on.

      2. Oh, Father God, please lay your healing hands on our friend Paul. Give him relief and provision for the medical attention he needs. Hold him up and surround him with your love and courage. Let him know you walk with him through this difficult time.
