They Know
Even as gray clouds
obscure blue skies
birds sweetly sing praises to You.
Your name floats along their song
as they lift it onto the morning mist.
They know
even in winter’s frost
You provide for them
and they give thanks.
Stark branches are aerial risers
from which this chorus croons,
“Hallelujah!”
Hearing them, I smile, remembering,
though you cherish the birds of the air,
I am your prized possession.
Susan, this is beautiful; and the ending is powerful. Nicely done.
Blessings ~ Wendy

Thou are truly a poet!!!!! One of the things I can see a dramatic change in my life is my attitude toward animals. I was a hunter with my Dad as a young lad. I loved hunting with him. Twas one of the few times he and I saw eye to eye. I would shoot anything and often did as a boy. But I haven’t shot a gun in over 30 years and have no plans on ever picking up the habit again. I now enjoy every little animal and the struggles of life they go through. Even the small little mouse that last night terrorized my wife got my sympathies. It was my job to catch him/her/it and remove him. I got down on my hands and knees and suddenly we were eyeball to eyeball. I smiled and told him to skeedaddle because the cavalry was coming. But alas my warning did no good. But the point is, I can see The Lord and his hand even in the most mundane of all creatures, the mouse who terrorized a 75 year old woman!!!!!

lol! Love this! Yes, He does transform us in small and large ways when we allow Him into our hearts. Remember these moments when the big things face you. Remember His sense of humor in the dark times. These are the things that helped me along the way. 🙂

Beautiful reminder of Ps. 104:28 What You give they gather, when You open Your hand they are satisfied with good things.
He sees every sparrow that falls, yet we are worth more to Him than the sparrow.
Thank you Susan.
True confession: To me, poetry is the high dive of writing!

Oh, gosh Kelly, me, too! Took a while for me to get enough courage to post this, but glad I did. Actually, the inspiration came from Matthew 6:25-26. Thank you so much for commenting!

Susan,
It is such a pleasure to read your beautiful words here.
Heartfelt and gorgeous with the tenderness of the imagery to bring the freshness that the sentiment in these words requires.
Look forward to reading more of your poetry – succinct and pure.
